PAINTING ?!?!?!
Assuming that you have: Painting skills, Paint preparation skills, Car preparation skills (i.e., sanding, body repair, etc), Proper equipment (i.e., compressor, paint gun, etc.), Proper personal protection gear, Proper place to paint (i.e., booth), etc...then you should be able to do the job...
I am not saying this to discourage you, it's just that you were correct when you said...it was BIG job...
BTW, I may have missed a few steps...it has been a long time since I painted a car so I know I may have missed some items above.

If your up for the challange don't be afraid. Buy a good book on autobody and painting and ask someone who's good at it how it goes. Some of the folks down at the paint shop can walk you though the process with thier brand of paint(mixing, reducers, etc.). There are some very good one stage paints out there(not base/clear) that are pretty easy to use and can almost be sanded down as smooth as old fashoned laqour.
Like the other poster said you need a compressor and a gun. One good one and an el cheapo for primer. If you don't have a place to spray you might be able to rent time in a spray booth. But you'll have lots of work to do before you get to that point.
Good luck if you do. Please submit photos.

There are tutorials for everything, why can't there be a detailed one on how to paint car parts. What grit paper to use to put primer? What grit after primer? What to do in between coats? Inbetween base and clear? I plan on learning all that in the future, or little by little.
Here's my opinion. It took my dad and I many years of painting (and many boo boos) before we could consider our self decent car painters...if you have never painted a car and want to experiment the art and techiques of painting a car by painting your own car....by all means...go for it...don't let anyone stop you...on the flip side...have some $$$ saved up when you screw up and then need to see a pro to fix it....just like 388STROKEDLX said...
