I have a 2003 GT with the chrome? Cobra rims.... they aren't as nice as they were when I bought the car, tried waxing them but that didn't really help much.

I have them indoors since the winter tires are on now... I'm not sure if they're chrome or aluminum... does anyone know and what should I use to polish them? I have a cordless Simmons polisher than I can use on them.

thanks.

When you polish them does it turn black? Chrome won't turn black when you use polish. If they are getting dull I will pick up some kind of aluminum wheel polish like Mothers. Once you get them shined up the way you want them you can top that with a wheel sealant. The wheel sealant is like wax for wheels. Makes brake dust come off easy and they will keep the shine a lot longer.

If you're dealing with unmodified factory wheels, you're dealing with either painted/clearcoated (with a tough, plasticized coating) or chrome. Hopefully it's not too hard to tell the difference between the two.

So if you're polishing unmodified factory wheels, make sure you're using a polish appropriate for the finish.

Keep in mind that some brands of wheel polishes are formulated to work with just about any surface -- meaning they're mild enough (hopefully) to work on most anything.

Some brands are specific to certain finishes, so check the label and be sure you're using the right polish for the finish.

They don't turn black when I polish them, so they're most likely chrome.
