sanding down bumpers
ok im getting a replacement front and rear bumper for my stang, the colors dont match how would i go about sanding it down to get it ready to paint (meaning what type of sandpaper should i use and such)
Is that the original paint on the bumpers? If so you'll have to scuff them up really well and you can shoot color over that. auto body supply stores carry special paste that helps scuff up parts. If you want I can look it you for you.
use 720... then high build primer - even duplicolor is ok.. then use 100o or so get er smooth- then hit it with duplicolor primer sealer... then when you get ready to paint it wet sand and spray

also wondering about this....
i got my GT side Scoops and painted them myself with a rattle-can.
they look great, but just not a shiny as the car. i put 3-4 coats of black on and 3-4 coats of clear on...not enough clear??
people say to load up the clear and let it run off like water.
anyone know for sure?

yea a scotch pad would work go over it with a red one first then a white one if the bumpers got rock chips in it you might wanna go over it with the d.a. (palm sander) maybe 180 grit would work then scotch pad it if theres any low spots fill them in with some filler and sand the filler down with the d.a. till the fillers smooth.
when its all smooth the whole bumper cover ( its easiest to do with the bumper cover off and up on a saw horse or similar stand) go over it with some primer (quality) and mix some flex agent with the base coat. If you use a rattle can at all in the process on your mustang, youll get a beatdown. There isnt a single thing you can use a rattle can for on a mustang except for the flat black trim like mirrors and such
Good Luck!
