Need some guidance
Alright guys I just got a Porter Cable for christmas. Now I need some guidance on what products to buy. Since I'm a complete amature at this I don't want to use expensive stuff until i get used to it. So give me some advice on some quality products that I should start out with. Also, I need some advice on how to get started with this on my car. Thanks in advance.
The PC is basically goof proof. You can still cause damage to a finish if used improperly or on a dirty surface. Check out autopia.org for "lessons".
For inexpensive, quality products, I like Poorboys products. The SSR line of swirl removers work well and smell great.
I have used PB EX (sealant with caranuba) on a daily driver with good beading of water after four months.

Poorboys and Optimum polishes work great with the PC. The Optimum is my go to polish. No dusting and can be worked in longer than most polishes without drying out. I'm having a big sale on my website right now on these products. Check it out at www.obsessivedetail.com. I also carry pads kits and pads needed for the Porter Cable. Let me know if you have any questions.
Tell us a little about your car and any finish problems you might have to deal with.
You could go as simple as over the counter products like a one-step cleaner wax (either synthetic or carnauba) or 2-step like PowerPolish and PowerWax. You can certainly get much more involved and there's lots of quality product choices out there and your choice is often a matter of personal preference and what's convenient.
And don't forget that the pads you need to get may vary depending on any issues with your finish. Though an assortment of quality pads along with a good backing plate is a great purchase right up front so that you're prepared for the future. I like Lake Country pads, which a lot of places online sell, including Juztang.
