Here is a website that has a ton of useful information about detailing and the Porter Cable. http://paintcare-n-detailing.com/ It has videos on how to correctly uses polishes and what motions to use. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. I use a Porter Cable almost everyday in my detailing business. You can be a beginner and get excellent results without having to worry about burning up your paint. It is almost impossible to burn up your paint with it.

I carry the Porter Cable on my site and I also have a kit with the backing plate and pads needed for it. I also got a kit with the Optimum polishes that I highly recommend. All of the products I carry I personally use and know a lot about them and what works best. Many people on Autopia.org detailing forums use these same products. I guarantee you will be happy with the results. Using the Porter Cable with the right polishes can take your paint to a whole new level. After you polish, put on a glaze, sealant, and wax to protect your work and to add more depth and shine. I highly recommend the ClearKote Red Moose glaze,Poorboy's EX sealant with carnuba, and Natty's blue paste wax for your color of car. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

For a full detail I charge anywhere from $185 all the way up to $350 for a full detail. It all just depends on what the customer wants. Of course if they have really bad swirls and it has to be buffed out it will be towards the higher end. The same thing with carpets, if they are really bad it will be a lot more to do. I look at the vehicle first and then give theperson an estimate.

Sounds like you are getting into it.
Try to buy everything together in some sort of "kit", sticking with one brand of pad at least in the begining.
Your initial investment will be high, but you will be able to detail several cars with the tooling and products.

There are several great sites for detailing -

Let us know what you deciede and don't forget the before and after pictures.

Personally I feel the kit prices (initial investment) from Justin's website www.obsessivedetail.com is not really that high! Roughly $200 for PC polisher, backing plate, 3 step pads, compound & polish bottles is a VERY good deal. He's actally $20 less on the PC then a large nationally know tool warehouse place that is just down the street from me I just bought a kit from him and can't wait for the Seattle-like weather we are gettting here in Indy to finally end [:@]

PC's are a great wonder tool. Not really hard to operate. Just keep up with what u need- back plate and the pads. Juztang will hooku up with a great price and goodies. Optimum polish is great so is Menzerna FPII. I orderd some of the OP and i was highly impressed with it. I got up and went to polishing on my car one morning and it was impressed. Here's a pic with Optimum polish and a a layer of Liq Souveran on top.
