Default Cleaning up bad body work

Before I got my GT, it was in some kind of minor accident - I don't know the details but a lot of spots on the body got nicked pretty good, and were very sloppily touched up. Whoever did it used the right color paint, but just slobbed it on - the spots are really obvious and painful, and you can feel them with your finger (pics up shortly).

Within the next few months I'm doing a big detailing job with the Porter Cable and Optimum Compound/Polish and I want to get rid of all these spots, as well as touch up the new nicks, spots, and scratches that have showed up on the car. My question is, will the PC with Compound and an aggressive pad smooth out the spots? Or will I need to wet sand them? What's the best method to getting these nicks smoothed out?

Pics here. The flash REALLY magnifies all the defects in my paint. It doesn't look THIS bad, but you can see why I desperately need a detail job on it.
