does anyone know if it is legal in virginia to have a black flame decal over your brakelights or to have a decal on your third brakelight? thanks

 

i believe as long as u can still see the brake lights during the day any tint is legal. and the tint/vinyl over the third brake light wouldnt be a problem no matter what.

 

alright cool, i am getting black flames to go over each brakelight, and then its gonna say mustang on the third brakelight...so i hope that is legal.

 

since the flames and the mustang shouldnt cover up the entire light...u should be pretty good unless they use so dark of tint that its practically paint. lol

 

Most states have their automobile rules on the Web these days. A little search will tell you the kind of things the lawmakers were concerned about. For rear lighting in my state, the particulars are quite closely specified. Candlepower, location, visibility. Most refer to a standard set by the Society of Automotive engineers (SAE; sound familiar?) Technically, any alteration that interferes with the designed standards is against the rules, so an enforcer with an itch could write you up for tints, decals, that kind of thing.
