Default CAR DUSTERS SAFE OR NOT?

I was wondering if it is safe to use automobile dusters such as the California Duster or similar products. My worry is if the fibers with enough pressure could scratch the clearcoat.

I think it depends alot on what you're dusting. If you've got pine needles or other hard, scratchy things, you combine that with dragging them across the surface and you'll get some scratching. If it's just light dust and nothing else, as long as you aren't putting alot of pressure on with the duster (just let the ends of the fibers touch the surface) it shouldn't do any more damage than a microfiber towel would.

I haven't noticed any problems from using mine.

Dude, I have been using my California Duster for over 1 year now...same one...and I have black paint...and have not had a single scratch from the duster, none at all......as a matter of fact, I will buy a new one soon because I think I should have canned the one I have long time ago....

Wow, don't know what to say....mine lifts the dust (as advertised), the I come behind with a detailer (megguire's) and it's back to looking shinny again. Never had an issue.

Did you "season" it as per the directions?

I have one and love it. I lightly go over the car to pick up the dust, then follow it up with DriWash. Takes all of about 10 minutes.

Those that say "not safe" and causes swirls...I'm speechless. These things are the best thing you can use! I use mine religiously - EVERY time I park the car before the cover goes on and probably 5-6 times at each show. Come look at my car and show me where the scratches and swirls are [&:] Something must not be right with your dusters or you are simply using them wrong.

Theyare very much worth it IMO. Now keep in mind its a DUSTER, not a cleaner

That's a good point, the one I bought stated that I had to let it sit on paper for a day or so to get rid of the extra wax that is there when you buy brand new. That's what I did.
