CAR DUSTERS SAFE OR NOT?
so the dusters are bad because they push some dust around....
Im going out on a limb here, but when you wash a car, I assume that once the water hits all the dirt and dust is just picked straight up? the smple act of wiping a Microfiber towel or whatever method you use does not in any way drag any dirt or dust across the car right?
I park in a gravel parking lot. I have to. No choice. I use a california duster every morning. Love it. I normally hold it so only half of the strands are on the car making an "L" shape, that way I know I am not pressing to hard. works just fine for me. does not scratch my finish at all. Definately isnt any worse than driving through the same dust...

Most of the water knocks the dust/dirt off the car. Combined with soap which will lubricate the paint and the use ofa proper sponge or mit, it will reduce the possibility for scratches and swirls. Nothing is fool proof...but it's certainly safer than a California Car Duster in my experiences.
I use one on my black paint all the time and just do not push down on the duster and go back and forth on the large areas and never in a circular motion! Follow with a quik detailer and microfiber for the smaller areas and all cracks/ jams etc! Been detailing for 17 yrs and never had a problem though they should put a disclaimer on the duster saying if not used properly it will cause scratches! Do not try to use it after the car was wet and the dust was "embedded" to the paint as a result...I would than use only the quik detailer after a good wash if the car has alot of buildup or dirt. J

Dude, I have been using my California Duster for over 1 year now...same one...and I have black paint...and have not had a single scratch from the duster, none at all......as a matter of fact, I will buy a new one soon because I think I should have canned the one I have long time ago....
