Claying the paint surface is a real necessity in getting the absolute slickest feel possible. I usually clay my cars once every 6 months to a year depending how bad they need it.

Never heard of using the clay bar on the whole car...works well to fix up oxidation and small scratches.

It's great to get rid of the tiny specs that show up on cars... I have a white exterior which gets alot of them but if I use clay enough, it comes out great. Clay is a PITA though... It just takes alot of time. Afterwards, you still need to wax so it can turn cleaning/detailing your car into an all day project

I use it mainly for those hard to remove dark dots (probably tar) and dead cooked-on bug guts that are on the front bumper. Like Fallstar01 said, it can turn into a whole day project....then it rains the next day or you get stuck driving in mud or through a puddle[]

I'm using it right now for the first time. I've never thought I needed it. I mean, I keep my car so clean (or so I thought)! I'm having to break it into several late-night sessions due to an over-loaded schedule. But so far, I'm very impressed.

I'm using the Mother's kit. I'm claying a section, then using 3M polishing paste, then topping it off with carnuba wax. The feel is absolutely unbelievable!

As for only doing parts of the car with clay - it's intended for the entire car rather than spot treatments. At least that's what I've read. In the future, I may want to invest in a more expensive clay such as Griott's Garage or perhaps Zaino Bros. (just to see if there's a noteable difference). But to be honest, I don't know how much slicker it can get!

For anyone who has not yet tried it - it would be well worth your time...
