Theres really nothin to do. If you get them re chromed, the next time you get new tires or rotation etc., anything having to do with taking your wheels off its gonna happen. When you take the lug nuts off it will grind the wheels and if the person putting them on and taking them off isnt careful there gonna grind them down.Thats the only thing about cobra wheels....So really theres nothing to do sorry... [&o] A couple of times ford and americas tires co. Grinded my torq thrust caps, and they bought me new ones... So if it happens again briing it to their attention. Most of the time people are not as careful as they should be workin on other peoples cars becuz its not theirs. If they were workin on their own cars they'd be careful and take their sweet a** time. PISSES me off. Once again sorry and hope everything works out....
Yeah your 100% right the thing is this to be honest i really cant blame the guys at the tire place cause i got these off e bay for like 509 for the set.. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR the chrome job is so thin thats why u pay more $$ when you get em from like mustang tuning etc...the heat from the gun actually discloroed the chrome to a copper look.. very weird
any way i as thinking this
painting the inside of the lug area flat black.. what do u guys think and then clearing the edgesso it dont chip off..

Yup thats why they have triple chrome and all that crap. I got polished aluminum.. I think its the best becuase if u get scratches you can buff em out and you can always make them shine!! cheaper and longer lasting than chrome... Yeah your wheels were prolly only dipped once. I just wish u luck on not getting any more chrome taken off your wheels.. If you can paint them black then do it. Or maybe find something rubber like rubber rings to put in the lug holes? just a suggestion that would be the best thing. Dont know if or where you can get em tho sorry....
and make sure the next time you get them rotated or whatever, dont let them use an impact wrench on them. tell them to just use a rachet with an extension to tighten them up, then just use a torqe wrench from there. That will eliminate the whole heat issue from the impact wrench. But yeah, i agree that the black paint in the lug holes would look pretty good.
Chrome plating is hardly a matter of dipping a wheel into a tank, it is a long involved process that often starts with tedious polishing and buffing, then cleaning and acid dipping, zincating, and copper plating. This may be followed by buffing of the copper, cleaning and acid dipping again, and plating in two or three different types of nickel plating solution, all before the chrome plating is done.
What makes a good chrome job is the 2 layers of nickel under the actual chrome plating. Your rims probably had only one layer which is why the heat f'd them. Also, never let a tire shop use an impact to tighten your lugs. My friend snapped 2 out of his 5 lugs trying to change a flat cause they torqued them too much.
