Default flat black paint

When using a flat black paint, after you sand the top coat is there anything which should be applied to protect it from the rain and moisture like a wax of some kind?

I have satin black on the hood of my MAch 1. It's not flat, but it's close(it doesn't have any clear on it). I've never really done anything to it except keep the car in the garage and it still looks like I just got it painted. That was about 4 years ago.

I say if you can just keep it out of the elements most of the time, you shouldn't really need to do anything. I realize not everyone has a garage, and if you don't then maybe you could buy a car cover or something until you can find the right chemical that you need...
