Default Removing swirl marks

Hey all, I traded in my Expedition for an '04 F150 recently and I noticed that in a certain area in the paint there are swirl marks that go up and down, as if from a buffer. You can only see it when the truck is clean, and the light is hitting it a certain way. I have already used clay, polish, glaze, and wax on the entire truck when I bought it but its still visable. It almost looks as if its under or in the clear coat, but I think thats just the depth playing a trick on the eye. There are no visible scratches or anything you can feel. The truck is black which makes those swirl marks just pop lol, but its only in a small section on the bed near the taillights.

Any advice on what to use to try to get that out? Will it need to be compounded, since the polish didnt seem to do anything? Is this reversable or is the clear coat damaged? I'll take some pics when I wash the truck tomorrow. I would like to detail it this week and would love to remove those damn marks.

Try Meguiars Swirl Remover first before using a compound. I have used it and it works well. If that does not do it then a mild abrasive compound should work. I use a very low abrasive compound. I would rather have to do it several times rather than take to much off!

what kind of polish did you use on it? you may need to step up to a slightly more abrasive polish. and my experience with the meg's swirl remover is that it covers the swirls more than it does actually get rid of them. but you could try that as well.

Meguiars No9 Swirl Remover is abrasive. You need to use it and then back your way outwith a full system to get back the wet look shine your after. The only thing more abrasive is the line of compounds.

Some Swirl removers do in fact just cover it up but if you use No9. Be gentle and a little goes a long ways. You also need a random orbit polisher otherwise you would be at it for days. You might just take it to a professional detailer and have them rub it out for you.

I would not do the compound route unless your really careful and comfortable. It is basically a paste sand paper! Let a professional fix it and you won't waste a bunch of time and money trying it yourself.

Check in the MF for detailers in your area. Many are fly by night operations. But the Pro's will have a strong reputation and will have been in business a long time.

Sounds like you got buffer tracks. You will need some like a Porter Cable polisher and probably a light abrassive polish. I fix a lot of cars that have this problem, it is pretty common around here. I don't mind all of the extra buff jobs though!

Juztang - your yellow stang is the Bomb!!! I had a 05 GT Convertible in Screaming Yellow! Loved it.

I have 2 Poter Cables (One in my garage and one at the marina). They are amazing machines!

Puts most all the other to shame!

I have seen your posts and suggestions. I wish you were closer to me!!!

Thanks for the compliment. I really like yellow, you can't miss it!

The PC is a great all around machine. I have a couple of PC's, a Cyclo, and a Hitachi rotary polisher. I'm also thinking about getting the new Flex polisher, I really like my detailing toys!!

Hey give me back my thread! LOL j/k

Buffer tracks is exactly how I would have described it if I would have thought of that myself.

I've got the PC, and I have Menzernas Polish II (http://classic-motoring.stores.yahoo.net/mefipo.html) at home. Perhaps I need to step into something stronger, or just focus on it next time which I didn't really do the 1st time.

I will post up some before and afters when I get it done!

Thanks for all the tips.
