Default Why does it Bead Up?

I was working on my mom's 06 crown vic today and got the hood clayed and then it began to rain. The water beaded up like it had a nice coat of wax on there, but I had only clayed it...not applied any wax/sealant. Why did it do this?

What did you use as a lube for the clay? If it was something that doubles as a quick detailer, that could also contribute to it.
