Default Self Diminshing Polish...

...does such a thing exist? Im looking for a polish that breaks itself down from a coarser cut to a finer cut and ultimately nothing. Input?

Most of todays polishes have diminishing abrassives in them. Optimum, Menzerna, Megs, and so on... all of have diminishing abrassives.

most automotive polishes work with a diminishing abrasive system, that being said the term "break down" derives from that.

even though polishes with with the DA (diminishing abrasive) system there are still different levels of "cut" or abrasiveness to different polishes. there's many different types actually, heavy cut, medium cut, finishing polish, etc. etc. not all polishes "finish down" the same. a heavy cut polish, when fully broken down will still require a medium cut polish to take out the marring left. same goes with medium, in theory a light cut, or finishing polish is needed. some times, depending on the clear or paint you're working with, you can get a medium cut polish to finish down nicely with no marring left.

on the same page, a heavy and *most* medium polishes cannot be broken down by hand because you simply cannot move your hand fast enough and/or uniform enough to fully "break down" the abrasives. even some heavier polishes are too abrasive for a dual action polisher, such as the porter cable 7424 to fully break down.
