Default Rim shine good/bad idea

The other day my friend proposed an idea that i raised an eye brow too thinking he was an idiot. We all heard those weird myths, tricks, shortcuts or whatever you want to call it to keep your car clean, most likely veg oil to eliminate water spots being the most known. Well my friend said i should try this and i wanted to see what you guys think about it. I think its crazy. I have Mag rims and they have a slightly dull finish and are a pain to keep clean constantly. He said try using Paint clear coat on them and paint the rims. Im sure he meant like hardware store clear coat and not car paint clear coat (unless their the same). He spoke of this idea saying that ill be able to just wipe off brake dust ect wit a towel, similar to powder coated rims. Now who here believes this, tried it or reccomends it for that matter.

Never heard of putting Italian salad dressing on your wheels to keep them clean

Why don't you clean them REALLY good, then keep a couple of coats of wax on them...
