As eluded to already, the important and time and labor consuming portion is proper surface preparation. Especially if you are working with a surface that has imperfections or damage in difficult to work with locations. Although my tastes change slightly from time to time, one thing that remains a constant is that I never had a problem driving a car with flat black paint and showing an imperfection here or there.
