Stripped rim clearcoat what polish should I use?
#12
now it makes sense.
i took a closer look at my rims the other day. the clear coating is peeling off big time, and the lug nut cover is totally dull ( i cant recall what it use to look like however). underneath the clear coating is the sparkly silver which still seems to look pretty good. i think if the center cap wasnt so crappy looking, i could get away with getting rid of all the clear coat and put a new coat of clear on.
however, i dont know enough to know how to get the rest of the clear off without damaging the sparkly silver underneath.

I would recommend removing the tires, i did not but if any stripper gets on them they turn a nice shade of brown. The stripper was Klean Strip aircraft stripper, brushed it on thick I recommend doing this on a nice day the stripper is nasty stuff be sure to use gloves and do it where there is proper ventilation. I left it in for a good hour on each wheel then rinsed using my pressure washer. I most of the clear and paint should be removed now, a second cot third coating may be needed for the tough spots. I rinsed them again and did a final soap and water wash. For polishing I started on the pitted and spider tarnish by wet sanding," do not sand in circles" then I polished with mothers mag and aluminum polish, I used their powerball an power cone because you need the speed to really bring a shine to the wheels.

Just be sure to take your time and do not rush the whole process probably took me 6 hours and thats not all the wet sanding I did, depending on how bad your wheels are. Start with the polish then move to wet sanding with 1500 grit if the polish does not work.
