I see spots.
I am a Stang owner, but my question is about my wifes car. She has a red ZX2 that was obviously never waxed until we hooked up. Now there are some spots on the hood and top that I couldn't seem to remove with Meguires scratch x ,their paint cleaner or polish. Does anyone have any ideas? Rubbing/buffing compund? I have a rotary buffer. Thanks in advance.
Sounds like surface contamination, a clay bar will probably take care of it. Dont be afraid to keep rubbing with the bar, you cant hurt the clear coat as long as you keep it lubricated. After the clay, use a good polish, then wax. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice guys.
I got a clser look at this problem this weekend after installing some flourescent lights in my garage. I'm going to try clay first.
It looks like the clear coat is actually "pitted", like contaminants may have been acidic. If the clay doesn't work I have some Meguirs cutter that should do it.
BTW. After your advice and reading suggestions about clay on this site, I used it on the stang this weekend. That stuff is amazing. The stang is always garaged and kept well, but I was amazed at how clean the paint was after using the clay. Thanks.
I did the clay, cleaner, polish, tech wax, and ran out of time before I could yellow wax (this weekend maybe).
