startor staying on

Default startor staying on

ok i got a problem the car starts and runs but the startor is staying engaged and running even when the car is running as soon as u turn the key off you hear this winding down soound comming from the startor so i know its still trying to run ? i bought new solenoid and a all new ignition and key so i have no clue whats wrong thanks

wiring to the switch or to the solenoid might not be correct.

Make sure the hot wire - positive - going to the starter from the solenoid - is not nicked - shorted out - this will cause the same problem . Trouble shooting electrical is nothing but time ..... Good Luck . ED

Take your starter out and take it to a parts place where they can check it. Most likely, the starter is not disengaging after the engine starts.

Is the starter motor running as soon as you turn the ignition to "run" position?

Maybe try this: turn key in ignition to "run" position, disconnect the wire on the starter, run a constant positive (maybe a jumper cable off the battery for example), and touch it on there to crank it as you would the key, removing it after the engine ignites.
