convert non power to powr brakes??
Hello,
I have a 1968 Mustang Convertible 3 speed manual transmission with no power steering and no power brakes but power top, go figure.
I want to convert to power brakes with as little or no modification to the firewall. Is there a certain type of booster and master cylinder I need and do I need to change the pedal assembly?
What is the better way to do this?

aye. you have 3 options:
leave drums and get a booster
convert to discs (at least in front)
convert to discs and add booster
people say that disc brakes are such an advantage over drums that it nearly makes up for a booster.
drums and no booster is just plain horrible.
booster upgrade on a 1965 manual transmission seems problematic, but I never heard of any problems with the 68 models
check out as well something like NPD catalogue page 56
Use stock master cylinder:
67-70 Booster only...............................2005-11A 249.95. give em a call to be sure.
not that this is any better or worse to what 69thunder says, just that you have more shopping options

streetortrack has a booster/mc combo that has an adjustable push rod that makes install easy, especially if there are any adjustments needed. I used that and it bolted right in. I did swap the mc out for an aluminum one I had. Those cast iron ones are most of the weight on those units.
If you use a stock booster, you'll have to replace the brake pedal as well. The pushrod on the booster is a different length.
SSBC sells a booster and master cylinder. Their booster has an adjustable pushrod, so you won't have to replace the brake pedal.

actually, check if you have a single master cylinder or dual (don't know if 68 single actually exists). If it's a single bowl master I would strongly suggest to replace the master cylinder as well.
im looking at the same situation with a 67 hard top. no ps no pb
if i were to look at converting all four drums to discs what is the best(economical way) to go about this. which would be the best donor cars to look for.

I am trying to have as little impact on the car due to it being very original with no modifications and still wearing the original paint. I was going to convert to disc but when I got this car it was too nice to modify but manual brakes are making my wife and I too nervous to drive it in traffic.
I am going to check out that site and I found the Paddock sells a similar if not the same kit.

All Mustangs, as well as allother American made cars, wereequipped from the factory with a dual bowl master cylinder starting with the 1967 model. Federal government regulations.
