A single politics thread in OT
Hey all,
I just wanted to post that I was pretty disheartened at the new "catch all" politics thread in OT.
At this time in the United States, we are two months away from our presidential elections. This is a huge moment in American history, and one that certainly has a massive impact on the lives of EVERYONE on this forum, American or not.
Now, I understand that some people don't like political threads. I would think their best solution would be not clicking on them.
I also understand some of them dissolved into crap, and sometimes very offensive crap. I totally agree, and I do think that the more aggressive moderation of late was very, very helpful for that.
But I was a bit unhappy to see that our politics and the biggest decision Americans have made in the last four years have apparently been given as many threads as ones about a guy having diarrhea from hot wings and Crazy Porno Lady.
Is there any way that this decision could be reversed, maybe with a stern warning of "keep the number of threads to a reasonable level as news dictates, and on a reasonable level of discourse?" The moderators are certainly up to the challenge, I think. I think this would be nice, not only so we can discuss these things and maybe raise the level of the average OT post, but also so maybe some of the younger members of MF (of which there are an AWFUL lot) might actually have a chance to learn a bit about things other than the state of Swatschools latest failure with girls.
Or heck... what about a politics sub forum? I'd be happy to be a fair and balanced moderator.
Thanks!
