I've uploaded one in my control panel, it's 100x70 and about 35k. It shows up when I am looking at my user CP, but doesn't show up when I post. I'm not unfamiliar with vbullitin forums, I'm a member of several, and have never had this issue. Any suggestions?

'profile pictures', specifically, are different than what i believe you are wanting to have show up. when you post, you have the option of having two images show up:

1) an 'avatar', which appears below your username in the top left section of your post, can be a max side of 150x150 and can be changed by going to the 'settings and options' section on your user control panel (user CP) and select 'edit avatar'.

2) a 'signature', which appears below your actual post, can be a max size of 500w x 250t. to change this go to the 'settings and options' section again and select 'edit signature'

for both cases, the pics can be uploaded the same way you uploaded your profile picture, and as an fyi (you may have done it this way already) the best way to upload is from an image hosting site like photobucket or imageshack

Avatar is the word I was looking for. i tried uploading from the user CP using both photobucket and directly from the desktop. The image is only 100x80 or so and is around 50k. When I upload it doesn't show any errors, and displays in the user CP itself, but doesn't show when I post.

hmm... that's odd... i see it in your user profile like you mentioned... but assuming it uploaded correctly, it's possible there could be a new member 'permissions block' on your account which typically last for a 1 month/50 post time frame. try again when you reach 50 posts and if it still doesn't show up, let us know.

Hmm, interesting. Never heard of such a thing, but sounds plausible

yeah, the block is placed on all new members to help keep spammers and 'trolls' localized in certain sections; in the past there were some instances where new 'members' sold items to or bought items from other members and either took the part without paying or took the money without sending the part, so it helps keep them at bay as well.

i know something as trivial as having a restriction on a sig or an avatar doesn't really fit with that, but it's easier overall to essentially open one big door once instead of opening a bunch of smaller ones one at a time... if that makes sense

Makes sense, I am a member of an aquarium forum that doesn't even allow you to see the for sale section for 100 posts. At least this one allows you to see the posts. Not a very active for sale section here though. The dakota forum I used to frequent had more stuff for sale. haha
