Pull it out so your lights are on. Take a small screwdriver, and pry up from the back (it's tough to get a good angle) on a little metal clip that is inside in a slot on it. You don't have to pry hard, it only has to come up a little. It will then slide right off, while you are holding that little metal piece up. Get a look at it before you pry on it.

Thanks for the help in the getting the headlight switch off!

Help Again Please!

I am changing speedometer cluster in my 02 Mustang V-6.
I have replacement out of 02 V-6. But the car will not start and (THEFT) light stays on very
bright.
Is the speedometer not compatable? or is there a reset procedure with the new installation?
thanks for your help with this.

You need to put your old cluster back in, and drive it over to the Ford dealership. Go inside and describe the problem, tell them you can swap both clusters, and that all they need to do is fix the problem with PATS. Once they agree, take out your old cluster (while you're parked at the dealership), put the new one in, and let them know you're ready. They'll bring out a portable PC-type of thing, hook it up to the OBD-II port and fix the problem for you. You will need both keys there, and both keyless entries. They may charge you for an hour's labor, or if they're nice, do it for free because it only took them about 5 minutes worth of time.

They can NOT adjust the mileage on your new cluster, so they will have to record your old mileage before you remove the old cluster. Write it down when you get there and save them the trouble... it will be good for your records too, in case you decide to sell the car. You will need to report accurate mileage.

Edit: I know because I had to deal with the same problem. After screwing up my instrument cluster trying to install white face gauges (I accidentally bent a pin the needles go on), I bought a cluster from an 01 Cobra on eBay (dirt cheap ) that only had 0.5 miles on it, swapped it and had to put my old cluster back in and go to Ford to have them fix this for me. The codes for the keys, AND the odometer is stored in the instrument cluster, NOT the ECU. Don't let anyone tell you any differently.
