Default engine damage?

i sent the cobra the shop last friday, about a week ago, to get the clutch changed. I bought a spec II, they told me that it would be ready for (last)monday. Same day that i dropped the car off, they call me saying that the car had aftermarket headers, long tube bbk's, which it does and that they were a pain to remove so that they had to charge me 220, on top of the 470 for the extra work, i gave them the ok.

Weird thing and what i don't understand, they called me back on tuesday and told me that the person who had put the headers on did a messed up job, that he had crossbolted? some bolt on the motor mount and that only one side of the motor mount had bolts, the other side had them missing? and that they weren't sure but that headers and engine might've been penetrated by the crossbolted bolt. Lady that talked to me said that she feared there was possible engine damage.

She said the they only wanted to give me a heads up in case anything else was needed and they needed extra work and parts or extra time. I told her to continue and as soon as i said bye i heard her yell to some people " ya'll did hear him, right?" and the workd "scam" imediatly came to my mind.

i'm not sure if that is their intention thats why i need your help. does any one know what they are talking about? Thanks for any help in advance.

GOD Bless

The first thing I would want to know is who "messed up" the header install. If you know who this is I would get in touch with them RIGHT NOW.
Cross threaded bolts, especially in aluminum, won't allow full torque to be applied to a bolt and going by how many header gasket failures there are on these forums it would be unlikely you have driven very far with cross threaded bolts.
Have you dealt with this shop before and, more importantly,do you trust them?If not,get ready, because it could get ugly.Go to this shop and make them show you the faults they are speaking of.If they won't let you look at them, something's wrong.
I'm a suspicious consumer and have gotten ripped off in the past, but no more!!!

i bought the car from a dealer in december, i would have to get in touch with them to see who did it. i'm a total ignorant when it comes to US cars, thats why i joined this forum.

First time i deal with this shop, no i don't trust them b/c i called them 3 times to get a quote for a clutch install and the 3 times they gave me a diff price and every time it increased by 30 or more, but i had to get the car fix soon. I told them to give me a list of all the things they find wrong with the car b/c i was going to show it to the dealer, i could tell they got "nervous" when i said that. The car is suposed to be ready for today, hope on GOD there was nothing wrong.

about the cross threaded bolts, is it really bad? what damage can it make?

Thank you very, very much for your response!

cross threaded bolts can be a simple fix like tapping and re threading or it could be so bad you need a new part, whatever the bolt threaded to. My advice, get to the shop asap and find out WTF exactly is going on. Something sounds fishy here...

this is why tomorrow I am doing my car work myself!

OYE i hate dishonest shops

If you don't know a lot about "US cars" then bring a buddy along with you that does, when you go check out the "damage"

Or.. bring a camera along & take a photo of the so-called damage. (a digital camera would ROCK here! lol). & Post the pic here! We'll help ya out

went to pick up the car yesterday, they actually called me around 3:40pm to tell me it was ready to go. So i get there and they tell me that the clutch slips but other than that the car was fine. The cross threaded bolts ended up not being a problem at all, ummm. well i thank GOD that it was no problem but it really seems as if they were trying to scam me. hopefully i won't have to go there again.

does anyone know whay the clutch chaters/slips so much? are specs like that? how can i lower the clutch's engagement point w/o having to buy the aftermarket stuff?

I wouldn't think a new clutch would slip at all.The chattering could be from a contaminated flywheel.Or it could be normal untill the clutch get a couple of miles on it.

it means they did a half assed job, but most shops do, unless you really know them, or catch them on a good week.

uh you shouldn't have taken delivery of the car......if they say the clutch slips but otherwise it's ok......you should have said well it's a brand new clutch.....so ****ing fix it.

and if you just bought the car at a dealership you ought to thave talked to them about the potential problems. even if the car was bought with the "as is" lable on it if it's something major it can fall under the lemon law.

take the car back to the people who installed the clutch immediately and tell them to fix the clutch.....a brand new clutch should not slip. if they won't do it call a lawyer.......and never take your car back there.
