Performance questions
Well ive got a question for all you guys out there. Ive got a 200 straight 6 in my 68. Im looking to get more performance out of the car. I was wondering how a set of headers and installing a 2bbl carb adaptor on my 1bbl would work. Also i was wondering how a set of headers would make the car sound. I know theres a lot of work to go into a bigger engine and The engine runs great so i figure i will try to get as much as i can out of what i have in it right now. Thanks for any suggestions or comments that you may have.
I can tell you fom long past experience that a header sounds like crap on a straight six.If the car is in fairly good stock condition keep it stock. It's value will definately drop if you try to change a bunch of stuff. If it's not in such good shape or has already been highly modified then have at it,a rebuilt classic is better than no classic at all.
There used to be a company named "Six Equals Eight" that specialized in six cylinder engine performance parts.I haven't heard of them in years but they used to advertise in Hot Rod magazine.Good Luck with your project.

Anything short of custom head/intake + nitrous and built bottom end really won't make you happy. I had the 200 ci six in my '67 with a 3sp manual. That thing wouldn't even chirp the tires if i dropped the clutch at redline, it would just bog off the line (i also put taller tires on it for the look though).
A header really won't do anything for performance... the thing just doesn't breathe well enough in the first place. The 2bbl will be impossible to fit on there (the intake and cylinder head are the same thing) and just be a waste, the engine's not big enough to need a 2bbl lol.
And sad to say, but unless you do a concourse restoration on that beastie, it's not gonna bring in a lot of money. When people shop for a vintage mustang, they think muscle car. Not "maybe i'll save a couple mpg's and have a 110 hp engine" Trust me, i know. If you do the V8 conversion and get the engine, tranny, and rear end cheap, you can almost make back your money when you sell it just because it's a V8.
For right now if you want to make it sound cooler, I suggest a flowmaster. (i don't remember what kind) I had one on my mustang, and it sounded just like a v8, it was kinda embarassing when people asked me what was under the hood =(
