Default Changing from 289 to a 351w

I have a 1966 mustang convertible with a 289 and I just bought a 1969 351w from a friend of mine, i would like to find out if I need some changes that i have to make or reinforced somewhere, I'm putting a 88 t5 transmission on it also, do I need to adapt anything? Thanks!!

I think you may find info in the Mustang Monthly mags if you do a search that will help you with the T-5 swap. If I remember correctly it is a basic swap and a very solid choice for your ride. I also think the Windsor swap is a very solid choice. The block is beefier and stonger than its littlle Windsor brother. An you get cubes without the cost of a stroker kit. That money saved can buy you a wicked set of heads if you choose to do so. As for the 351 in the car you should not really need to beef anything up unless you wish to pound it on a 1/4 mile track. I know I was very little help but the gang on the fordfmuscle forums may have more info to get you on your way.

for starters you'll need front springs, oem on the 66 offered two kinds of springs, one with the A/C option and a different spring fotr those without A/C. YOu'll need something stiffer then those, I suggest putting in the 69 springs if they fit. Take the tranny from the 69 also. The 66 tranny won't take that kind of power. You'll need to get rid of the stock 8" rear and go to a 9" behind the 351. I'd say, front springs and then make sure your drivetrain can take it. I have a 66 in the garage thats got the drivetrain done up but need some tlc on the body. I'm on my third motor with that car but this one is the strongest. Those old ones are fun to work on!
