torque converter
K so i was kinda thinkin about gettin a 2500rpm stall and eventualy 3.73's or 4.10's and a shift kit, my question is wat does the torque converter rly do, doesnt it make it so u dont take off till 2500 rmps then? and i was wondering it u can then like turn it off cuz otherwise wouldnt i have to like rev to 2500 at stop signs b4 i go and b a pain in the ***, sry if i sound like a homo, but ne info at all will rly help me out, i just heard that it will make me launch more in a better performance zone and get quicker times and better launches? pls help me out
thanks a lot

RE: torque converter
A torque converter is a hydrostatic coupler. Its a FLUID coupler between the engine and the transmission, which works by the rotation of the heavy weight oil inside of it... meaning there is no actual mechanical connection (this eliminates the need for a clutch). No, the stall wont exactly do that. Think about it... when your in drive and your off the gas, the car will still slowly go forward, but the brakes can overcome it because of the slow engine rotation.
The stall speed is a sort of reference point.... its when, if you were to lock the transmission.. the torque converter simply wouldnt allow the engine to spin anyfaster. So, a 2500RPM stall converter will not let the engine spin past about 2500 rpm if the transmission was locked solid. You need to know about where your engine makes peak torque to select the right one for your car.
