Default Gear Swap

Could anybody tell me the degree of difficulty or the steps to doing a gear swap on a 2001 GT? I want to replace the stock gears with 4.10's but I don't want to pay for maitenance and would like to do it myself. Thanks.

have it done profestionally, if you dont set the backlash right it will burn up the gears.

Gears are one of them things that you should have a shop do if you have never done it before. If you know someone that has done it before you should have them help you. But remember with a shop if the gears are whining or anything you can take it back and say fix it right but if you do it your self your stuck trying to fix what you didn't set right. For $300 I would take it to the shop.

Its a fairly difficult job. Pinion depth, bearing preload, backlash etc. You will need some "special" tools to do it. Dialidicator with flexible base of some sort, feeler gauges, small inlbs (0-60) beam torque wrench and basic hand tools. You may also need something along the lines of prussian blue if the kit does not come with it.
