Default AIR SILENCER

My friend has a 00 GT 5 speed. He wants to remove his air silencer but he still has a paper filter. Will it be safe to remove the air silencer with that filter? He is strapped for money with a new baby so he won't be able to get a K&N for a few weeks but he has to itch to do something to his car after he seen and heard my GT with the air silencer removed with the K&N. Any advice????

It'll be fine.
I ran for several months without the silencer and just the stock filter before I got my K&N.

No problem; he can remove it. The silencer has nothing to do with filtering; it's there to reduce the sound of "rushing air".

Thanks guys. My friend will be happy as hell. It will be his first mod. He just don't know what he is getting into. If he is like me it's an addiction.
