Default Ford 9 inch

Its about time for me to stop babying the car and put some slicks on it so I can get out on the track. I wanted to upgrade my axels because I have seen the damage they can do when they snap. Rather then upgrading to 31’s and changing the dif, also a gear swap… would it be more worth my while just to jump straight into a 9”. Although I do not have the power for it right now, I am looking forward to about ~500hp with my Windsor project and a little squeeze. also when converting over to a 9 inch, can i use all of the breaking system off my 8.8? or will i need to rig something else up?

9 inch is really the ultimate way to go, I did this about 10-12 years ago when I switched to big blocks in my mustangs. It is the ultimate rear end but an 8.8 will easily handle the power you are talking about. Ask yourself a serious question, realistically will you ever see 800+hp consistently and have the need for constant gear changes? If this is never gonna be an issue build the 8.8 and have fun. Your gonna have to buy axles for a 9 also, not to mention everything else and quality stuff for the 9 that will handle the power isn't cheap by any means. If I was to add up all the money in my rear ends alsone, I bet its close to 10k in 9 inch parts. And no 8.8 parts wont work.

You can make that 8.8 handle the power that you want it too.

I'd also say stay with the 8.8. With the money you'll be dumping into the 9 you might never get to 500 hp
