Default RE: Slowly learning...

Ok, I've run into a couple of problems today trying to put on my BBK LT headers and shorty H pipe...
the header bolts on my original came off nice n easy(used penetrating oil)
as for where the headers connect to the h-pipe it was pretty hard getting to them but i did happen to get ONE bolt out on the driver side...
cant get the top bolt out seems to be stripped or something(screw not the nut)
tried cutting the flange with a dremel didnt really work too well
wasted too many cutting discs n then said ****it

o2 sensors were even more a bitch to try and get out
they seem impossible to unscrew from the pipe...
tried soaking in penetrating oil to no avail
passenger side nothing was done except the header bolts
Driver side of the H pipe took a bit of workin but i got the flange undone after the cats where it connects to the pipes leading to the mufflers
as for the passenger side
ITS ALL ONE PIPE(its been welded with no flanges at all straight thru to the muffler....)
so i've got no idea on that one, didnt want to really but now i gotta get new mufflers i think for it.

so that was my day pretty much
got barely anything done just got really dirty

Well, just in time for all that rain too [:@] Better wear a raincoat if you go out there tomorrow
And you better get it together so I can see it on Friday at NED

ah, the joys of learning! keep soaking the O2 sensors with penetrating oil. I forget the size, but they make a special deep well socket with a gap cut in it to clear the wires which you can then use a long pull bar on to break them loose. you can also hit the end of the wrench with a BFH (big friendly hammer) to crack them loose. another option is to use a box end wrench with a cheater bar, i.e. piece of pipe, slipped over the opposite end of the wrench to give you more leverage. or you could leave the O2 sensors in the pipes and remove them later after you get the pipes out from under the car. pick one of the above and I'm sure you'll succeed sooner or later. for the pipe that is welded, you can carefully cut the pipe off square with a hacksaw or sawzall near the end where the H-pipe connects and then get an adapter to make a new connection or take it to a shop and they can weld on a new bell mouth connector and flange. for the stud in the headers, get a long extension and socket so you can apply more leverage to it with a cheater bar like I mentioned above. use 1/2" drive wrenches if you have them as you could break a 3/8". another option is to carefully apply heat from a propane torch to the offending bolt/stud, just be very careful when you do this and be ready to hit the wrench with a hammer to break the corrosion loose while it is still hot. don't worry about stripping the threads out as you are replacing the headers and H-pipe anyway, so all you want to do is get the damn stud out of there and the pipes disconnected. if all else fails, cut the H-pipe off as high up as you can with a hacksaw and remove the headers with the piece of pipe still attached to it.
hang in there, don't give up the ship just yet!
