Default Fuel Problem??...Please help

I have a '98 3.8L Mustang. When I start it up and take off, it's fine, but soon after it starts acting up. When I'm driving it won't rev past 3K rpms even if i hold it to the floor, and the farther I drive the more RPMs I lose. Today it got as bad as doin that at 2K rpms. It feels like it would when you hit the governor...it just hesitates and won't accelorate. If I barley get into the throttle it'll accelorate a little, but only if i don't get over 3K RPM or more. The check engine light is also on, and has been for a short while. I think it might be an O2 sensor, but I'm not really sure. Can anyone help me figure this problem out? Thanks.

Why not change your gas filter.

Absolutely on the gas filter. Also check your plugs and wires. Make sure your plugs are seated properly and the wires are on securely.

Also check vacuum hoses for cracks or disconnection.

How many miles on the motor? Could def be a clogged filter or a converter for that matter. Have the codes read and start there.
