battery issue!!!!!!!
ok got a problem, my cars battery has been dead for a couple months now and i finally got a battery charger, heres hte problem, when the car is charging with the battery charger, the lights and everythin will go on, but after it stops charging and i unplug it, nothjin starts, the lights, or the car, idk what the problem is, any1 have any suggestions, perhaps a new battery?
It does sound like the battery is dead. When charging the battery, i always take it out of the car and charge it on my bench with my charger. Not a good idea to charge a battery that is too far down with cables still connected. The charger will let you know right away if the battery is not good when it is connected then you plug the charger into the wall the needle on the charger will go up the scale and then slowly go back down in a short amount of time. Or the needle may just stay at the bottom of the scale and not budge much if at all.
After you get a good battery, consider buying a trickle charger and keeping it connected all the time. I purchased mine from Summit Racing in Tallmadge, Ohio, they are a few miles from my house. I bought an Autometer brand and it is great.
Also another quick note if the charger needle keeps going back and forth and the breaker continues to trip on the charger the battery is below the normal discharge condition or one or more of the cells are shorted out. If the charger does continue to trip, connect one end of about 12 feet of ordinary lamp cord to the positive charger clip and the other end of the lamp cord to the positive battery terminal. connect negative clip to the negative battery terminal . connect charger to AC. If charger breaker guard stops clicking on and off , leave lamp cord connected for one or two hours as charging continues. Lamp cord can then be removed, and the positive charger clip can be connected directly to the positive battery terminal. Should one or more cells be defective, the circuit breaker and meter will continue on and off untill condition corrects itself or is otherwise corrected. Do not leave the charger on for an indefinite length of time.
