Default carburator rebuild?

bought a 1968 Mustang coupe with a 289 2 barrrel carb. The car was parked for about 3 years in the desert. It runs good at highway speeds but coming off a stop light and giving it a little gas it wants to "starve" for gas. If it is the carb. would a rebuild kit be in order or should I just change the whole carb. I want to leave it as a 2 barrel....no real need for a 4 barrel. thanks

You got kinda a double negative there, it starves for gas yet you dont want to put on a 4bbl. What is the CFM of your 2 bbl? If its 500 you should be ok, if its any smaller than that you will run into fuel starvation problems.

Fuel filter first if you have not done that already. While you have it off, turn it over and check the fuel pump for a good stream.
