Even for a guy your size a 1000 is a TON of bike for your first bike. Remember that always. The front end of these bikes come up at will in 3rd gear. Personally I think you are nuts for getting such a big bike your first year. And no offence but guys at your age are not kown for making the best decisons, so remember to respect this thing and realize that it's capible of perfroming WAY outside your riding abilities.

hehe i love it. but he is right. when i was 18 i made some pretty stupid decisions. the only reason i am recommending that you get a 1000 is i know a guy roughly your size who purchased a honda 600rr three months ago and now that he actually knows how to ride it, reasonably well, he is already trying to sell it to me so he can get a 1000.

so think it over and like i said learn on a 600...

Save your money. 4 wheels are better than 2!
lol im assumeing you never drove a motor cycle be4.

and i say start off with a 600 or maybe even a 500. NEVER get a 1k bike for a beginner bike.

90% of sport bikes on the road are limited not by the bike but by the driver... too many people get freaked out by coming into a corner too hot and grab a hand full of break.. which ends up dropping the bike.. very few people are actually experienced enought to go into a full lean and trust the bike....

Plus.. sport bikes are not meant for drag racing.. they are meant for carving corners.... you try and full throttle it without a wheelie bar and you will flip the bike and quite possibly end up in the hospital... Believe me if this is a first time bike... a 600 is more bike then you can handle much less a 1000 of any kind. Unless you take it out on track days you will never even see the full potential of a 600.. I have both an R6 and an R1 and yes I have beaten many 1000's with a 600 .. why.. because like I said.. 90% of the bikes on the road are limited by the driver not the bike... take a look at any AMA pro-race.. the difference in track times between 600 and 1000's are not that different and those are professional racers..
