If you have never owned a bike you have absolutly no buisness on an R1, it is by no means a good starter bike. Get a cruiser or at most a 600 for your first bike, learn to ride and get used to it and then trade up in a year or two.

+1 get a smaler bike an old one maybe a early 90 bike cause u will probably lay it down anyways and ull be really pissed if u spend that much money on a 1000 and wreck it u can get a dependable 500 ninja for a song they are really fast for being a 500 and u can probably find an early one for about 1200.00!!

hey moron, are you going to drink and drive on that too? If they take your license, like we all hope they will, it will be the bus for you b1tch!

THis kid is a dumb a$$ punk who thinks it is cool to underage drink and drive and likes to brag about his rap sheet. I say buy the fastest bike you can, drink a case of beer, dont wear a helmet and run yourself into a wall.

Just curious, but why is everyone obsessed with supersport bikes? What about a Harley. I understand crotch rockets are faster and handle better, but have you ever ridden a Harley? Nothin else like it.

spoken like a person who never rode a sport bike. how do you know if there is nothin else like it unless you try, may not be for you, so that's cool. I have many friends who all ride HDs and wouldnt be caught dead on a jap bike, that is about as stupid as it comes, it is the image more than anything, you want to talk about a ricer attitude . I have owned both. Each has it's benefits, but this is a board of performance car enthusiaists (sp), so it would seem to go that people want a performacne bike. Plus the members here on a whole seem pretty young, so they think it is fun to wave their d1ck about who has the fastest bike. whenever they mature, they will switch to the high-priced, under engineered, fat, slow, ill-handling, yuppie-trendy, only half-made in the usa anyway who you need to add aftermarket parts to get that harley sound the hypocrits tried to patent eventhough they dont produce it , think they are cool just cause they think they are a true biker owning a piece of jewelery they ride once a weekend or every other week.

That being said, I love all bikes. If i move back around my friends again, I will buy a soft-tail classic in a minute to go ride. But would love to have a ducati 999R to tear it up and ride wheelies with.

stock vs stock? you would be suprised how many of the hd faithful are stupid enough to think their bikes are as fast as a sportbike. Kinda like the ricer guys with stangs, which if you think about it, is just the opposite.

I second that motion! This is VERY good advice, as I have been riding for over 12 years, have had my share of different bikes, and just purchased a Honda Rebel 250cc for my fiancee as a starter bike.

And remember, keep the rubber side down!
