Default Interior electircal problems

ok, i have an 87 gt with an all 90 interior in it. i replaced next to everything. all trim and dash and carpet and seats. the instument cluster in the 87 was only an 85 mph so i took the one out of the 90 cause it was 140 mph. well now my dome light stays on al all times, as does the rear hatch light. they get brighter if i turn the panel light switch up and turn the dome light on that way. both doors are closed. also some of the intrument panels lights arent in sink (like the blinkers and high beam indicatiors.) as of now the computer to the car is not hooked up so i dont know if that has anything to do with whats going on. i'm just wondering if there's some kind of difference between the 87 interior harness and instrument cluster, and the 90 interior harness and cluster.

i also can only get my high beams to turn on when pulling the collum arm back as if to flash the lights

there is a difference in the hookups in both the instrument cluster as well as the column connections....i am currently searching through my vast collection of links to find a diagram that will be most helpful in fixing your problem.

Probably be in your best interest to either 1) get complete cluster from a 87-89...or 2) get real familiar with wiring so you can move wires around in the connectors
this guy laid out everything in a simple to use pdf file. you will need to get the adobe acrobat reader to open the file.....
adobe reader is here - http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
the schematic is here - http://www.nitrorc.com/matt/Mustang/...%20Diagram.pdf

i double checked it against a ford service manual when i found it and this guy is making all of the miniature print crap in the ford manual easier on the eyes.
I hope this helps you out.

p.s.
if you can't get the link to work, let me know because i saved the .pdf file and I can e-mail it to you.

btw, I'm telling you guys.....I have more damn bookmarks than a normal person should have

ok so, if i can find a 140 mph gauge for an 87 will that work. or would i be able to change the little gear in the tranny and then just get new gauge faces that say 140? would that possibly work. i'm kind of low on cash at this point

Your best bet would be to ask Ford Tech about this one.....I'm not sure if you can compensate for the difference in mph with a tranny gear.
They should be able to tell you what you can get to fix you up.
