Default Caliper Rattle

Please help. I am a new owner of a '97 Cobra and the RF caliper is rattling (noisy as heck). Has anyone had this problem? Is there an easy fix? I was hoping to get som options before I replace the caliper.

Thanks,

Have you had it apart to determine the cause of the rattle. Elaborate a lil on the circumstances upon which it happens.

Yes, I've had it apart and the only way I can describe the problem is that it is loose. There is a single pin that holds the caliper to it's frame. The pin has a washer & c-clip. This hardware is in order and compares exactly to the LH side (which doesn't rattle). Another way to explain the problem is that when the caliper is at rest, you can wiggle it a bit - the LH side sits tight at rest.

I'm thinking of trying a new set of pads, but wanted to know if anyone else has had to replace one from this problem.

Thanks

It sounds like you are missing the spring insulator clip.....(for lack of better word) I will try to describe it and where it goes. This clip goes right on the inside of the pin and caliper bracket. If you look at the bracket just right (inside towards center of the hub) of the pin there is a flat notch where this goes. It basically looks/ shaped like a squared off "C". The factory ones have rubber molded inside of it. I have seen others that are just metal. When they are in place, they are wedged between the caliper and caliper bracket, so that it takes the slack out of the floating caliper. You should be able to get a hardware kit from Ford or aftermarket. I hope you can understand my description, if not find another Cobra and you will see what I am talking about.
