AIR NOT WORKING CORRECTLY
Well the thrills of used car ownership. The last time I ran the air in my car it came out of the vents correctly. I was able to direct air flow as designed. Today I get in and I have air (and heat) but not what setting I put it on it only blows mostly out of the defrost and a little from the floor.
Any idea's???

It sounds to me that you are saying you get cold Air,but only at Defrost(aimed to the windshield),and a bit at the floor. If you are certain that ever thing else is working(compressor etc)
then the issue is the control that dictates where you want the cold or hot air to go to.
One problem could be a failure in the vacuum lines operating the doors in the area where the
Evaporator is.As you adjust the dial,(****,switch) to make the air blow toward you directly,it will not blow the air where you want it to go.This is how I understand your complaint.Since you didn't buy a new car and you probably do not it's history
1) An object may have fell down a vent before you ever bought the car,and on occassion it moves around
causing your commands from your controls to be jammed, deep inside your dashboard. After you hit a pothole the object, may move and allow the components(the small vacuum doors near the evaporator in the dash)to move and everything is fine again.
2)If it's not a object causing your grief then I would run a CARFAX on your vehicle to see if it's ever been in an accident prior to your purchasing it.Many problems can cause your problem with your controls.I am thinking this problem may resolve itself.Something is impeding the direction of your HVAC system vacuum doors in the dash near the Evaporator. An accident can typically cause pieces of the vacuum doors to break off and reek intermitant havoc with the system.Like you are having now!
3)One of the vacuum lines has disengaged causing limit use of your air direction.
4)Usually every car manufacturer has a special method of testing out the system .You need to ask a Ford Mechanic how to perform the sequnce to put your Hvac system into TEST mode.Once the TEST is initiated it opens all those vacuum doors and sends a/c in sequence to each vent.If the test fails, it will confirm in what area you can expect your trouble is coming from.If the problem is near your Evaporator and the Vacuum doors are not operating, you have to take the interior HVAC components under the dash apart till you find the object or broken peice, then replace the component and return everything to it's proper place.
IMO ,if major items under the dash have to be dismantled...bring it to a Hvac repair specialist.
