Default Urgent!

I just bought a 2000 GT Convertible today and it ran fine. I came home and cleaned it up for about 3 or 4 hours. I had the Radio and the like on. I turned it on twice to keep the charge but forgot for about 2 hours, I went to start it up one last time before bed and it wont start. It does not give me the regular dead battery sound though, more like a grinding noise instead of the regular engine wont turn over sound. The power top and windows are VERY slow, so im leaning on battery, but the fact that its a grindind noise makes me unsure, the alternator belts are not moving. Any help would be great, thanks!

Charge the battery or get a jump start and don't let it happen again!!!

Sounds like the battery, but is your starter engaging... what truly is up with that grinding noise?

I have a 2000 gt convertable with 75,000 miles on it, still have the original battery with no problems. Charge it up and see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't, climb underneath and try giving the starter a whack with a hammer, it might free it up if it's stuck.

It's prob the original battery.... It might have enough juice to start cranking the starter, but not enough to get the engine rotating and that's why you hear a grind.

I only say this because you noticed slow windows and the power top, otherwise it could be your starter has crapped out or was replaced and not shimmed properly.

Is it an auto or manual? If a new battery doesn't solve it, give the car a good rock back and forth right before you start it.

It's just the battery. Jump it and move on. A car has to dun at 500 rpm just to make the alt charge enough to equal the current use. Starting it for a minute a couple times during an all day radio concert probably took more to start than you got from starting it. Mext time plug in a portable radio. And if you can't hear it like you want, get a boom box!
