Pro 5.0 shifter
I am thinking about installing a Pro 5.0 shifter in my 03 GT I have read in a few places that once installed it is noisy. Anyone have this shifter and is it worth it. What is the noise like? Is it annoying. I had a 92 LX about 5 yrs ago with a hurst short throw shifter and i did notice a noise from the stick but didnt even consider it was the short throw shifter. It was rather annoying. Thought I had tranny problems. Any comments? Thanks in advance.
I've had noises come from my stock shifter... I am upgrading hopefully soon but I enjoy SLP products so I might get their short throw, I'm not completely sure though, I know someon with a Pro 5.0 and I didnt notice any noises when we road in his car, just get en exhaust loud enough that you can't hear it
I'm the one who bad-mouthed the Pro 5.0 shifter a while back, for several reasons. First, I don't really think the shifting is any better, in fact I think it's worse. It's very stiff and takes a good deal of effort to throw (it's been installed since Sept. '03 so it's well broken in by now). There are two distinct motions in each shift - one out of gear to neutral, and then a separate motion into the next gear. This is especially noticable going from 1st to 2nd. It doesn't seem like a performance item to me - shifts probably take longer. But the worst is the noise. There is generally more transmission noise coming up through the shifter (I'm told there is a rubber bushing in the OEM shifter that the performance shifters don't have). But the noise in 5th gear is the worst. It actually sounds like engine pinging coming from the gearbox, but pretty consistently. I've already spoken to the guy who installed it and he says all this is normal. I've told him that the next time he has my car for servicing (oh, BTW, he's the dealer I bought the car from - a friend), to put the original shifter back in. It's just not enjoyable for me to drive this way.
have a friend that runs the tri-ax in his 93, it shifts really well. haven't noticed any noises coming from it though, other that the sound of it shifting, which sounds and feels good to me
