351W 351C or 351M?
WHATs the difference between them? Im doing an engine swap replacing my 302 with a 351.. in a 94GT. I heard something about a clutch pin thingy adapter that you might need.... when doing swaps... anyone know about that?
351w is the same engine family as a 5.0, you likely won't need anything other than a different oil pan and headers (or some modifications to your stock h pipe instead) + fuel mods or intake mods depending on if your going carb or FI. Most all parts will bolt right off your 302 onto your 351w, except for a few brackets etc. since the deck height is a tad taller. Other than that they are identical, same heads, oil pan, bolt patterns, tranny, etc.
351m and 351c are a modified and clevland 351 cub motors - completely different than a 351w. NEVER use a 351m - just not a good idea. Might as well put a deisel in there
351c will make more power generally than a 351w - but require alot more mods.

Thanks for all of the info. Windsor it is. The reason 351 is because of the commercially available parts. and better hood clearance than something like a 460 i suppose. Now i just need to find the block. Goto the engine shop. and install it in a 94 Mustang GT. Instead of buying new brackets i was gonna Forge them out of aluminum from my friends shop. I have to do that anyways because the bracket i need has to fit the Supercharger on it too. Thanks all for the help to a fellow mustang owner.
Oh yeah and a 351 can be bored/stroked to a 427 right?

I'd look into getting a Windsor block for the 351 buildup...unless you buy one from the many companies (DSS, CHP, Dart, etc.) I think it's the 351C's & M blocks had some issues w/ the #4 & 5 main journals being starved for oil....but professional builders can often work the block to remedy that. If you built it yourself, get a Windsor block.
If your doing a newer stang buildup (Like you are) then you should go with a 351W because of the ease of instalation. The commong idea of the 351C being weaker is a load of crap. In 1970 the 351C 4V was rated at somewhere around 375hp and pumped closer to 400 out. The Clevelands are harder to find in general because they are such good engines. If you do happen to use a 351C then get a 4V and not a 2V. Difference in head flow and manifolds. 2V was only a 2bbl intake and had heads that didnt flow as well but still offered a nice amount of power.
The difference between the 351W and the 351C is that the 351W has small port heads with verticle springs like a small block (because it is a small block.) The 351C has big port heads with cantered springs like Big Block Fords and Big Block Chevys. The increased air flow over the Windsor is massive and you would get one hell of a grunt out of that motor. Basicly with a Cleveland you are getting big block power out of a small block package. The 351M is a truck block, its a modified Cleveland and has a taller deck height. The 351C was only made for 3 years 1970-73
Personally I would use a Cleveland just for the sheer power, but it is hard to find parts for these engines and aftermarket isnt as developed as the 351W just because it was produced for such a short period of time. The 351C would be one hell of a nostalgia project in a modern package and would turn just about as many heads as having a 429CJ in there. I am surprised at how many people recomended the 351W but I guess its just because its the easiest engine swap to do. It should bolt right in and bolt up to the tranny just fine. The input shaft is 7.895" so get a T5 that will fit. Only a 1994-95 T5 will work and in reality its called a T50D so thats what you need to ask for when you get a T5 for your 94'. Everything should work out just fine then. If not then give Tremeck a call and tell them your application. If your looking for a stout tranny then go with their TKO 500 (500ft-lbs torque capasity) and the TKO-600 (600ft-lbs torque capasity) and they are about $1400 dollars for the TKO-600. Damn good price for such a strong T5.
If you need help on how to identify a 351C or a 351M just reply to the post or send me a message and I will show you how to know which one is what.
Sincerely Eric
