Default 99 GT A/C problem

Any help here would be appreciated. My a/c engagement clutch cycles in and out. When disengaged the pressure reading is 46 psi. then the clutch engages and the pressure drops to 22 psi. Ok, then after it drops to 22 psi, the clutch disengages. In short: clutch engaged 22 psi, clutch disegaged, 46 psi. This cycle continues every few seconds. When, I tried to charge the darn thing, the pressure shot up to 60 psi. Of course, at that point, I aborted the whole thing.

Thanks in advance for any help understanding this whole thing.

Sounds like it's low on freon. It's dropping below the predetermined threshold and shutting the compressor off. Under charge conditions, you will see a rise in pressures from the added can of freon, after which, they will drop and stabilize. Unless you overcharge it of course.
