Default RE: X pipe questions

i just got a catted x from magnaflow. i had the magnaflow catback on for about a month and sounded good. the catted x will not change the loudness of it but will change the sound it makes. i think the x makes it sound more like a stang. when adding the x it gargled when reved . trust me it sounds distinct and good. thats my opinion.

I have just full length headers and flowmasters with dumps. The headers are straight back to their dedicated muffler. I also just bought a 95 (another one) and the thing has an X-pipe on it. I looked at it and from what it appears it bottle necks at the X because it stays the same diameter, and it doesn't compensate for the fact that two 2.5" pipes are coming together. I figure, witht eh heads, supercharger, and rockers I have on it, I'd just melt the X with my setup. My current exhaust already gets red hot, and it is 2.5" as well. It depends on how much power adding material you going to get. If you stroke it, or blow the engine, don't do teh X-pipe in my opinion. I also feel it gives teh car a stupid ricer sound. I particular dislike the sound. Btw, I am also off to college next year for my sophomore year, and the caps at PSU are pretty easy going as long as you aren't out and out dicking around hardcore. Take care and let us know your decision.
The X pipe wont choke down anything. It doesnt reduce in size at all. You have two pipes going in and 2 pipes going out. The center diameter that connects the two only has to be the sime diameter as the pipe. The idea of the X pipe is that as each "puff" (the engine fires left side right side etc) shoots from one side to another, and creates a vacum for the next "puff". This is called scavenging. Your reducing the backpressure this way.

If you are running the stock H pipe you definatly need to get something else. Espcially if you are glowing your exaust. I believe (correct me if im wrong) that the stock H pipe is only 2.25 Diameter, and thats on 99 + . An 84 may be even smaller.

In any case of its size, if you are running a powerful enough setup to glow the headers you need to think about replacing the center pipe. Your exaust is considerably more restrictive than it would be with either an aftermarket H or X. I would damm near bet money that if you replace your mid pipe the exaust won't glow as much, if at all.

Someone jump in here and correct me if im wrong though
