Default Classic Mustang upkeep

Hi, I am interested in buying a 1960's Mustang for around $8000. I don't know how to work on my own cars, so whenever it has problems, I will have to take it to a shop. I was just wondering if this will be a complete cash cow. I don't want to buy this car and find it eating away my money month after month. I know I can find one in pretty good condition for this price, but Fords are quite notorious for mechanical problems. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

If you don't know anything about taking care of cars, skip anything that's older. They don't necessarily break down, but do require routine maintenance. The shops that can maintain these vehicles are few and far between, mainly because they don't have computers to tell anyone what the problem is.

Do everyone a favor and by an '06/'07.

ya i answered your post in the other forum but i will post it here too buy a new one cause you will drown in debt if you take it to srvice all the time so just get a new one or take an autoshop class at a local community college for a couple hundred dollars and then you learn and you have a shop to work on your car while you are enrolled and if you don't wanna do that then just buy a new one

Yup, just like everyone has been saying so far, if you cant keep up with maintenance yourself then dont buy something old.

i mean ya there are somethings i take it in for just cause i want recourse if there is problem and taking it to a shop does that but there are only a few garages that can do anything the even at ford the only people that can work on my car is the master mechanic at the shop and thats only cause he has been there long that he knows what to do all the other mechanics have a dear in the headlights look on them so i would take a class if you want a classic cause its hands on and you get actual experience wich is something a book cannot give you oh and you can always take the class over again either for a refresher or just to use the shop and all the tools lol
