CUTTING FACTORY SPRING'S. WILL IT WORK?
I am wanting to lower my 99 mustang about 2 inche's. I know I can buy spring's that are all ready to put on and lower my car, but I was woundering why cant I just cut my factory one's? I know I dont need to heat them up but if I cut my factory one's will it hurt the spring any and how will it ride with the factory spring's cut?
Dont do it. You will mess up the spring rate if you cut stock springs. If you want to lower your car 2" for cheap buy some used frpp c-springs and cut them.
I remember my brother cutting the coils on an S10s to lower them back before companies were making them. He would only cut just a little bit then heat up and flatten a coil out. The trucks had a rougher ride, but not too bad.
It can be done, but if you don't know what you're doing, you'll probably beat the hell out of you and the car because the ride would suck. Not worth it when lowering springs are so cheap.

i actually cut my springs. and wow what a mistake.... because my strut was hanging out of my hood after hitting a pot hole on the highway.
i really wouldn't recommend it.
