ORIGINAL: DG03

It has something to do with one of the tints in the color.

One tint is used in the printing money.

Hence, it would be easier to counterfeit if it was available to everyone at a supply house.
that is some crazy s**t....if i had the money i would be perfectly fine w/ the 03 paint though....i would love to have that color of car.

The 96 Mystic color was produced by the BASF company. I forget which Mustang mag had it out on the cover before Ford released the car. They did a huge write up about it. The write up said it was made up of seven different colors. Yes, it is about 700 bucks a pint.

ok let me put it this way.. when I sold Fords in 2004, we had a 04' Mystic Chrome Cobra. It was 38k for the hardtop, for the smae car that cost 32,5... can you figure out how much extra the paint made the car cost brand new?? haha

GM is using a similar paint on some of their vehicles now, so its becoming more common. I've seen Denali's, Escalade's,and Suburbans' with the color changing paint.

theyre just pearlescents, theyre not an uncommon kind of paint. just not seen as much because its expensive.

just most pearlescents are duotone rather than like 3 or more like the mystichrome is.

in '96 it was Mystic, in '04 it was Mystichrome. There is a difference in the colors. in '96 there were 1999 Cobras painted Mystic, and i believe 1010 Cobras painted mystichrome in '04.

Correct, but it was the second most produced color, only behind black.

You cannot have the car painted in Mystichrome unless it was the original color. If a Mystichrome were to be damaged in an accident, a rep would come and calculate how much paint was needed, not an ounce more. I knew someone who was going to attempt the Roush conversion and was deterred when they could not get the paint. And as someone said before, it is due to a component being used for $ printing.
