Default Running rich after H pipe - help

Intalled an off road H pipe on my 98 GT, disconnected the battery then and added the mil eliminators to the last two O2 sensors.

The CEL light has not come on.

Based on my gas mileage and the smell coming from the tail pipes it may be running rich.

Any idea how I can verify this or fix it ?

The car is a daily driver...I'd like to get the gas mileage back if posible.

Thanks

Since you dont have cats the exhaust will smell different, mine did when i put my o/r pipe on.

I didnt notice and decrease in gas mileage though. How bad did your mileage drop?

Like hotrod said...the cats aren't there anymore to burn any unburned fuel/oil. Throw it on a dyno and get the a/f if you think it's runnin rich...or do some intake mods to lean it out some

the smell can be from no cats and the loss of hp can be because your gassing it more because you like the new sound/hp your getting from the new hp

U guys make very good points!!!!

Right now the mileage thing is more of an observation. l'll top off later or tomorrow and compute the actual MPG but I'm prety sure it is bad.

The funny thing right now is that I am driving the car to stay off the RPM where it gets loud. I guess I don't want to bother the neighbors or attract cops

My plan is to have it dyno tuned by Ramsey's soon as I get some funds

I just came back from the gas station...... I was at 1/2 tank. The driving done with this tank is from before the H pipe then one day's worth with the mil light tuned on. In other words this was mostly to top off in order to have a reference point.[&:]

Measured 20.99 MPH. Not bad but it is less than the previous tank by a couple of MPG.

I'll do some more "controlled" driving to tomorrow and top of to re calc. the MPG

Maybe I just spooked myself from reading the bad things that driving with the CEL on does

I definitely smelled unburnt fuel today at idle. [:'(]

The car was fully warmed up.
I cleaned one of the plugs really good the other day after I checked it so I can go back to it for reference.

I'm going to remove it again to see if it fouled up or got black & soothy over a few days driving before I spend money on getting the car checked out.

Any ideas ?
