Default Engine swap trouble - Please help!!

hey all,

ok well i'm in the midst of swapping a 5.0L out of a '79 T-Bird into my '85 LX the original engine that was in it was a CFI 3.8L, so the swap was going good for the most part, so i'm getting close to the end, but now i'm running into some major problems like my ignition- i dont know much about wiring in cars so i dont know how to hook it up to a keyed on source, everything else seems to be hooked up right on my ignition except that, next problem aparently there is somthing wrong with my fuel pump since when i turn the key on it primes but then wont give me any fuel after that unless i take off one of my terminals on my battery but thats just the same as turning my key off then on, then of course my tach dosent work but thats a minor thing, i think thats it that i know of, any help would be awsome

thanx

Default RE: Engine swap trouble - Please help!!

I'm not sure about the ignition bro. I just did an EFI to Carb switch and had similar problems. I replaced the whole ignition system with a DuraSpark II distributor and a Crane Fireball Ignition box and coil. That straightened me out. As far as fuel goes, i bypassed the WHOLE system. I mounted a Mallory electric pump where the old fuel filter was, replaced the in-tank pump with a pick-up and then ran my own lines up and back. Painless Wirirng makes an awesome fuel pump wiring system that is a breeze to run too. We just grabbed "switched" power on the driver side firewall nad hooked the fuel pump to that. Works great... I hate electronics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best of luck.. hope his helps a little bit.

Oh yeah - The only gauges that worked after my switch were MPH and Fuel.
